내딛었다는 것은
그 길 위에 있다는 것.

어느새 지나가더니

끝을 알 수 없던
두 해는 길었습니다.

서로 마주할 순간이 줄어들고
홀로 머무는 시간이 늘어났습니다.

그 시간들의 의미를
돌아봅니다.

다시,
봄을 맞이합니다.

passed before I knew,

and the two years
with no end in sight
felt so long.

The moments we could meet
grew fewer,
while the hours spent alone
grew longer.

씨앗 때부터
그의 바람은 꽃이 아니었다.

뿌리를 내리고
줄기를 세우고
잎을 펼쳐 하늘을 향했다.

세상을 만나
마음에 담고
그것을 남겨두고 싶었다.

붉음은 잠시 빌린 것일 뿐.

아름다움은 꽃에만 머무르는 것이 아니니,
열흘을 채우지 않아도
아쉬울 것 없다.

지는 것도
피는 것도
그저 스쳐가는 모습.

꽃잎이 바람에 흔들린다.
잡지 않는다.
시간도 꽃도 이미 충분하기에

he never wished
to be a flower.

He set down roots,

toward the sky.

He met the world,

Color

to regret.

Falling,
blooming—
both are
passing forms.

Petals
sway in the wind.

He does not hold them.

한 방울 .
두 방울 ..

얼어 있던 시간이
알아채기 어렵게
조금씩
풀리고 있습니다.

그렇게
흘러갑니다.

~ ~ ~
* Recollections of a Drop

One drop .
Two drops ..

Time, once frozen,
almost imperceptibly,
begins
to thaw.

And so
it flows.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

나는
흘러가는 강물 속에서
이름도 없던 물방울이었습니다.

언제부터였는지
기억도 나지 않습니다.

작은 굽이를 돌고
너른 모래톱을 지나
폭포로 떨어집니다.

이윽고
어딘가에 닿습니다.

끝을 알 수 없는
깊이와 흐름

바다입니다.

따스한 햇살이
나를 감싸던 날

포근한 미풍을 타고
바다보다 더 큰 하늘로 떠오릅니다.

바다를 벗어납니다.

나는
보이지도
만져지지도 않게 됩니다.

그때가
가장 가벼웠습니다.

... . . .   .   .  . . . ...

한없이 높고 넓은 세상...

자유롭습니다.

나의 모습은
여전히 보이지 않습니다.

'나는 지금 존재하고 있는 것일까?'

자유와 존재 사이에서 흔들리며
그렇게 부유합니다.

북쪽에서 온
차가운 바람을 만납니다.

내 몸이
하얗고 작은 결정으로
변해 갑니다.

그때가
가장 아름다웠습니다.

곁에 나와 같은 모습들이 있습니다.

그들 역시
보이지 않았을 뿐
함께였습니다.

반가운 마음에
서로 손을 잡고
끌어안습니다.

하지만 그 포옹은
우리를 무겁게 합니다.

더 이상 떠 있지 못하고
떨어집니다.

소리 없이
숲 속, 나무 위
사르락 사르락 쌓입니다.

내려앉은 세상은
온통 하얗습니다.

그 위로
계속 쌓입니다.

무게가 더해집니다.

숨이 막힙니다.

어느새
얼음이 됩니다.

... . . .   .   .  . . . ...

꼼짝할 수 없는 차가운 시간...

지난 날을 돌아봅니다.

강물에 흘러가던 나,

자유를 얻고
모습을 잃고

아름다워지고
손을 잡고

행복했습니다.

그 끝이

이렇게
어둡고 차가운
갇힘이라니

시간마저 얼어붙은 듯
멈춰 있습니다.

그리고

얼마나 지났을까

나를 하늘로 보냈던
그 따스한 빛이 스며듭니다.

나는
다시 물방울이 되어
강물로 흘러갑니다.

이제 기억이 납니다.

오래전,
이름 없던 물방울이었을 때

내가 어디에서 왔는지...

a nameless drop
within the flowing river.

Since when,
I cannot remember.

Turning along a small bend,
passing the wide sandbar,
I fall
as a waterfall.

I arrive
somewhere.

A place without end,
of depth and flow.

It is
the sea.

On a day
when warm sunlight
held me,

in a faint breeze,
I rise
into a sky vaster than the sea.

I leave the sea.

I am
no longer seen,
no longer touched.

That was when
I was
the lightest.

An endlessly vast and boundless world...

I am free.

Yet
my form
is still unseen.

"Do I exist now?"

Between freedom and existence,
wavering,
I drift.

From the north,
I meet a cold wind.

My body
begins to change
into small, white crystals.

That was when
I was
the most beautiful.

Beside me,
others like me
are.

They too,
unseen,
yet we were together.

We take each other's hands
in quiet gladness,
and embrace.

But in that embrace,
we grow heavy.

No longer able to remain aloft,
we fall.

Without a sound,
into the forest, upon the trees,
we quietly settle.

The world where I rest
is all white.

Above it,
more gathers.

Weight builds.

My breath tightens.

Before I know it,
I become ice.

A cold, unmoving time...

I look back
on the days that have passed.

Carried by the river,

I gained freedom,
and lost my form,

became beautiful,
and held hands,

and was happy.

That end—
this dark, cold
confinement.

Even time itself
seems frozen,
standing still.

And then,

how much time
has passed—

The warm light
that once sent me
into the sky
seeps in.

I
become a single drop again
and flow
back into the river.

Now,
I remember.

Long ago,
when I was
a nameless drop of water—

"가끔씩 왜 사느냐는 질문이 떠오릅니다."
석파는 어렵게 말을 꺼냈다.

"살아 있는 존재로서 자연스러운 궁금증이겠지."
길현은 편한 말투로 대답했다.

"어떤 답이 있으십니까?"
"나도 딱히 없다네."
석파는 실망스러운 표정을 지었다.

"하지만 이것 하나는 알고 있다네."
"무엇인지요?"

"살기 위해 하는 것이나 살다 보니 생겨난 것은 사는 이유가 될 수 없다네."

"잘 이해가 되지 않습니다."

"자동차에 연료를 넣거나 소모하기 위해 그것을 사용하지는 않지 않겠는가?"

"그렇지요."

"그렇다네."

길현은 말을 아꼈다.
석파는 한참을 기다렸다.
끝내 길현은 그 눈빛에 못 이겨 한마디를 덧붙였다.

"삶을 유지하기 위해 하는 일은 삶의 이유나 목적이 될 수 없다는 뜻일세.
몸과 마음의 평안, 생명을 잇는 일,
그러한 것들을 원하도록 우리 안에 새겨진 즐거움과 두려움마저도 말일세."

"At times, the question of why I live comes to mind."
James spoke with some effort.

"It is a natural question for one who is alive."
Scott replied, at ease.

"Do you have an answer?"
"Not particularly."
A trace of disappointment crossed James's face.

"What is it?"

"What we do to live, and what arises in living—
neither can be the reason for living."

"I do not quite understand."

"One does not use a car
simply to fuel it or to consume fuel, would one?"

Scott held his tongue.
James waited for a long while.

"It means that what we do to sustain life cannot be its reason or its purpose.

- 여행 편지

4월의 어느 날입니다.

나는 따스한 오후 햇살이 내리쬐는
강변의 벤치에 앉아 있습니다.
나른한 공기와,
곁을 스치며 지나가는 봄바람이 있습니다.

조용하고 편안한 시간입니다.

먼 곳을 바라보다가
고개를 들어 보니
작은 그늘과 반짝이는 빛을 만들어 주는 나무가
가지 가득 벚꽃을 안고 있습니다.

자세히 보고 싶지만
눈이 부셔
이내 손그늘을 드리웁니다.

맑은 봄 햇살이
얇은 벚꽃잎을
더 투명하게 만듭니다.

포근한 파란 하늘빛과
공중을 떠다니는 맑은 봄의 향기,
멀리 지나가는 흰 뭉게구름의 풍경이
햇살을 타고
얇은 벚꽃잎을 지나
내 어깨 위로 내려옵니다.

이제야 긴 겨울이
끝나 가는 듯합니다.

It is a day in April.

I sit
on a bench by the river,
where warm afternoon light falls.

There is a languid air,
and a spring breeze
brushing past.

It is a quiet,
gentle hour.

I had been looking far—
then I lift my head:

a tree,
holding small shadows and flickers of light,
its branches full
of cherry blossoms.

I want to see more,
but the brightness—
my hand becomes shade.

Clear spring light
makes the thin petals
more transparent.

Soft blue sky,
the drifting scent of spring,
white clouds passing—

they ride the light,
pass through the petals,
and come to rest
upon my shoulder.

Only now,
it feels
as though the long winter
is coming to an end.

늘 무언가를 바라보며 살아갑니다.

본다는 것은 갓 태어난 아이부터 이름 없는 뭇 생명들까지 흔히 지닌 능력이지만,
가만히 되짚어 보면 온전히 닿을 수 없는 먼 곳을 향한 일일지도 모릅니다.

때로는 보이는 것과 보는 것 사이에 깊고도 먼 간극이 존재합니다.

보이는 것 '너머'에 자리한 장면과 시간, 감정, 그리고 그 미묘한 자취를 따라 바라보려 했습니다.

스쳐 지나가는 풍경 속에 머무르는 순간들,
익숙한 장면 속에 숨겨진 낯선 결을 따라가며
'시선'이 미처 닿지 않았던 그 너머를 보고 싶은 바람을 담았습니다.

이번 작품들은 바라봄에 대한 질문이자,
그 너머를 향한 작은 사유와 상상의 조각입니다.

잠시 삶의 걸음을 늦추어,
서로의 시선과 또 다른 '너머'를 나누는 시간이 되기를 바랍니다.

* Beyond the View

We live our lives, always looking at something.

To see is an ability shared by all living beings, from a newborn child to the nameless lives that dwell upon the earth.
Yet, upon quiet reflection, it may be an act that reaches toward a distant place we can never fully attain.

At times, there exists a deep and distant gap between what is seen and what it means to see.

I sought to follow and behold the scenes, moments, emotions, and subtle traces that lie beyond the visible.

Lingering moments within passing landscapes,
traces of unfamiliar textures hidden within familiar scenes?
they hold a quiet longing to see what lies beyond,
that which the gaze has not yet reached.

These are both a question about the act of seeing
and small fragments of thought and imagination directed toward what lies beyond.

May this be a moment to slow the pace of life,
and to share our ways of seeing, along with that other "beyond."

숨어 있었을까?

나는 어디에 있는 걸까?

어질러진
발자국이 새겨진

바로 그것일까?

어디서도 찾지 못했던

* 빛의 태어남

공허는 이름처럼 비어 있기를 원했다.
물질은 이름처럼 존재 하기를 원했다.

그 갈망들이 모여 별이 되었다.

작은 것들이 가까워져 무게를 이루고,
존재의 경계가 열리는 순간, 둘은 하나가 되었다.

새로운 하나를 이루며 남은 경계의 부스러기,
무게를 얻지 못한 그것은 빛의 알갱이였다.

그 빛은 별의 심연에서 기약 없이 부유했다.
어느새 근원의 별을 벗어나 광대한 공허를 가로지른다.

무게 없이 존재하기 위해 시간이 된다.

시간이 그러하듯,
그것은 우주에서 가장 빠른 존재.
그것은 우주의 속도를 거슬러 머무를 수 있는 존재.

오롯이 시간이 되었기에 그것은 시간을 느낄 수 없다.
오롯이 시간이 되었기에 다른 시간들에 닿을 수 있다.

이윽고 그것이 내 앞에 이르렀을 때,
나는 바라본다.

나의 눈에 비친 그것은 다시금 변한다.
그것은 빛이 아닌 무언가로 변하며
나에게 시간을 주고는 기억이 된다.

* The Birth of Light

Void wished to be empty, as its name implied.
Matter wished to exist, as its name implied.

Those longings gathered
and became a star.

Small things drew close and gathered weight,
and in that moment, the boundary of being opened—
the two became one.

As oneness formed, fragments of the boundary remained;
what failed to gain weight became motes of light.

The light drifted within the abyss of the star
without promise of an end.
Already beyond the star of its beginning,
it crosses the vast void.

To exist without weight,
it becomes time.

Like time itself,
it is the swiftest presence in the cosmos.
It is the only presence
that can remain where it is
while the universe moves away.

Having become nothing but time,
it can no longer feel time.
Having become nothing but time,
it can touch other times.

And when it finally arrives before me,
I look.

What enters my eyes changes once again—
it becomes something beyond light,
gives me time,
and then becomes my memory.

헤어짐의 끝에서
헤어짐의 시작을 더듬는다.

목적을 갖지 못한 채 걸어온 길이
방황이라 불리는 것은
가혹하다.

나는
이곳에 서서 깨닫는다.
나의 길이
아직 끝나지 않았음을...

놓았다.

그녀는
오지 않은 그를 뒤로하고

도시의 안쪽으로
걸어 들어갔다.
